We typically reply within one business day. Please include your macOS version and, if relevant, the version of Recordium (Settings → About).

Getting started

1. Grant permissions

On first launch, macOS will ask for two permissions. Both are required:

If you accidentally denied one of them, open System Settings → Privacy & Security, find Microphone and Screen Recording, and enable Recordium.

2. Add an API key

Open Settings from the menu-bar icon and paste a key from one of these providers:

Keys are stored locally on your Mac and never transmitted anywhere except to the provider whose API you chose.

3. Record

Click the menu-bar icon, pick Start Recording (or press ⌘⇧R). Have your call. Pick Stop Recording when done. Give it a title, then hit Transcribe & Save.

Frequently asked questions

Zoom / Teams / Meet audio isn't being captured.

This is almost always a screen-recording permission issue. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording, make sure Recordium is enabled, and quit and restart the app. macOS requires a full relaunch for this permission to apply.

Transcription fails with "API key missing" or 401.

Open Settings and verify the key for your selected provider. If you switched provider recently, you need a key for the new one. For OpenRouter, make sure the key starts with sk-or-v1-.

The transcript cost shows zero or wrong amount.

Cost is estimated from input and output tokens returned by the provider. A few providers don't return token counts for audio requests — in that case, Recordium falls back to an approximation based on duration. The number is a best-effort estimate, not a bill.

I can't find my recordings.

They live in the folder you chose during onboarding. By default: ~/Documents/Recordium/ (local) or iCloud Drive/Recordium/ (iCloud). Audio is in audio/, transcripts in transcripts/.

Can I re-transcribe an audio file I already recorded?

Yes. Use Upload File… from the menu bar and select the existing m4a. It goes through the standard transcription flow.

The app isn't appearing in the menu bar.

macOS hides menu-bar icons when they don't fit. Try removing another menu-bar app, or use Control Center to see overflow. If Recordium isn't running at all, launch it from Applications.

How do I switch between local and iCloud storage?

Settings → Storage → pick iCloud or Local. Switching changes where new recordings go. Existing files in the other location are not moved automatically — you can move them in Finder if you want a single place.

I want a refund.

Refunds for Mac App Store purchases are handled entirely by Apple. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com and submit a refund request. We can't issue App Store refunds directly, but if you write to us first we might be able to fix whatever's wrong.

I have a feature request.

Please send it to hey@thisnikita.com. Short, concrete requests with a real use case are gold.

Is there a Windows version?

No, and there are no plans. Recordium relies on macOS-specific APIs (ScreenCaptureKit, menu-bar runtime) that have no direct Windows equivalent.
