Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
Recordium ("the App", "we", "our") is developed and published by Nikita Kudriavtsev ("the Developer"). Contact: hey@thisnikita.com.
2. Data we collect from you
None. The App does not contain analytics SDKs, crash reporters that phone home, or any background networking to servers controlled by us. We do not know who our users are, we do not track installations, and we do not maintain user accounts.
3. Data created and stored locally by the App
The App creates and stores the following data on your Mac, in a location you choose in Settings (either your local Documents folder or your iCloud Drive):
- Audio recordings. Captured from your microphone and system audio when you initiate a recording. Saved as compressed
.m4afiles. - Transcripts. Plain-text markdown files with YAML frontmatter, containing the transcription, summary, title, timestamps, and cost metadata.
- Preferences. Your settings (selected AI provider, storage location, onboarding state). Stored in macOS user defaults.
- API keys. Keys for OpenRouter, OpenAI and/or Google Gemini are stored in an access-restricted file (
~/Library/Application Support/Recordium/credentials.json, permissions0600).
All of this data is under your control. You can inspect, modify, or delete it at any time using Finder.
4. When data leaves your Mac
Data leaves your Mac in exactly one scenario: when you explicitly initiate a transcription. In that case:
- The compressed audio file is transmitted directly from your Mac to the AI provider you selected in Settings (OpenRouter, OpenAI, or Google).
- The request is authenticated with your API key — not ours. There is no Recordium server, proxy, or intermediary.
- How the provider processes, stores, or retains that data is governed by that provider's privacy policy, not ours. Please review it:
- OpenRouter Privacy Policy
- OpenAI Privacy Policy
- Google Privacy Policy (applies to Gemini API)
If you use iCloud Drive as your storage location, recording and transcript files are also synced across your own Apple devices through Apple's iCloud service, governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
5. System permissions we request
The App requests the following macOS permissions, each for a specific, narrow purpose:
- Microphone access — to record your voice during a call. Only active while a recording is in progress.
- Screen recording (audio only) — to capture system audio from other call participants via
ScreenCaptureKit. No visual frames of your screen are ever captured, transmitted, or stored. - Network — to send audio to your chosen AI provider for transcription.
- iCloud Drive access — only if you select iCloud as your storage location.
You can revoke any of these permissions at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security.
6. Cookies and tracking
The App itself does not use cookies or any form of tracking. This website may be served through a content delivery network (Vercel) which may record standard server logs (IP address, request time, user agent) for security and operational purposes. Those logs are retained for a short period and are not used to build profiles.
7. Children's privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any data from anyone — children included.
8. Your rights (GDPR, CCPA, and similar)
Because we do not collect personal data, most data-subject rights (access, deletion, portability) do not apply to the Developer — there is nothing on our side to access, delete, or port. For data held by AI providers you chose, please contact them directly. For data stored locally on your Mac, you have full control through the operating system.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top and, for significant changes, note them inside the app. Continued use of the App after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
